MEMORIAL CUP - 2009
In the just concluded WISA sanctioned Memorial Cup 2009 held in Waterbury CT, Rising Stars of Waterbury CT won the competition. Congratulations to Rising Stars.
Anyone who is familiar with the effort and resources that a two day competition like this or any of its comparable magnitude is required, should commend the organizers and sponsors. With that said, it was very embarrassing to the people who collectively organized the Memorial Cup, when they realized that one team did not show to participate as scheduled. Numerous phone calls were made to the captain and manager of that team but they deliberately did not answer the calls. Shame on this team.
The competition was played and completed under familiar but in a unconventional way. Everyone had a wonderful time playing softball cricket on well maintained grounds.
Listed below are teams in their respective groups.
GROUP A - 1. Rising Star 2. N.Y. Boyz 3. Red Scorpion 4. President XI.
GROUP B - 1. Young Guns II 2. Schenectady 3. Good Times. 4. Ankerville.
In Group A, after the qualifying games the Rising Stars topped the group A in points and they advanced to the finals, and Schenectady S.C.A. in Group B did likewise.
In the finals Rising Stars made 148 - 8 wkts - Chris Ramsammy top scored with 68 runs. Schenectady batted 2 overs scoring 14 runs then the captain decided not to play anymore due to the rain that fell earlier making the outfield slippery. When asked why he made that decision, the captain - Onkar Singh said that the safety of his players is more than the trophy. This is the major setback where you cannot continue the game another day due to the fact that time is not permissible.
