Cornered Tigers over Dynasty

The saying "give Jack its jacket", is perfect for the Cornered Tigers Cricket Club. They walloped Dynasty by 68 runs in the second round of play in the WISA 25 Over competition at Charles Drew Park last Sunday.

It's widely known that the Tigers' are in an enviable position. They have earned that envy, and until someone knocks them off in a final, they will be the talk of the town.

Cornered Tigers batted first and made 189 for 6 off their allotted 25 overs. The inform Asif Aly (Ganguly) made another half century. Their captain D. Singh also scored a half century. Dynasty replied with 121 all out.

In the other Premier Elite games, Wild Bunch beat Rebels by 5 wickets. Rebels 147 for 9. Wild Bunch replied with 148 for 5. Majestics also beat President XI by 5 wickets. President XI 164 all out. Majestics 166 for 5. Richmond Hill beat Rising Stars by 6 runs. Richmond Hill 185 for 7. Rising Stars 179 all out.

Premier Division

Deluxe over L.B.I. by ten wickets. LBI 73 all out. Deluxe 74 without loss.

Patriots beat Hamshire by 6 wickets. Hamshire 158. Patriots 162 for 4.

Division I

Primetime beat Chargers by 8 wickets. Chargers 156 for 7. Primetime 159 for 2.

Warriors beat Crushers by 3 wickets. Crushers 164. Warriors 165 for 7.

Canjie beat Ocean XI by 68 runs. Canjie 150 for 7. Ocean XI 82.

Division II

Diamond Star beat Royals by 2 wickets. Royals 134. Diamond Star 135 for 8.

Narine & Ali scored Tons

The were two more centuries scored in the West Indian Softball Association 25 Over Competition last Sunday. Trinity's Rudy Narine 115 was not enough to win their game against Horizon in their Division IV game in the second round of play.

Trinity batted first and made 201 all out. The aforementioned Rudy Narine top scored with 115. Horizon replied with 204 for 5 hence winning by five wickets.

Mohamed Ali's 105 for Ozone XI set up a mammoth 153 runs win against Blaze  of Glory. in their Division III game. Ozone XI batted first and compiled a staggering 245. Blaze of Glory in reply were bowled out for 92.

Canje Sails Over Ocean XI

Canje Cricket Club got the better of Ocean XI last Sunday at the Southern Park playground. Canje won the toss and decided to take first strike, on a beautiful day for softball cricket. It was a decision that proved to backfire for Canje as they soon found themselves in deep trouble with the score at 1 run, for two wickets, after two overs, with both openers back in the pavilion. In came the captain, Goordial "The Wall" Matai to join the now New York famous Tejpaul Gobin . The score would soon read 18 for 3, as Gobin went caught for 10. By the halfway mark, Canje was reeling at 44 for 5 wickets. The usually vocal Canje spectators were quiet.

After the break, the Canje pair of Matai and Nizam Latiff batted cautiously, picking up the ones and twos, and occasional boundaries. The pair took the score to 101 in 21 overs, before Latiff, who had just started playing his shots, was unfortunately run out for a sensible 18. Matai was then joined by his younger brother, Mel Matai, and that was when the fireworks started. The last four overs would yield 49 runs. The senior Matai played some beautiful shots on both sides of the wicket, before he was caught on the deep mid wicket boundary, for a well played innings of 70 runs. This knock followed his excellent innings of 97 the previous week against Prime Time Cricket Club. Canje would soon close their innings at 150 for 7 wickets, with Mel Matai scoring an entertaining innings of 23, not out. Bowling for Ocean XI, D. Mohan, had excellent figures of 3 for 5 from his five overs. He was well supported by Latchman Mohan, who took 2 for 25.

When Ocean XI started their innings, disaster struck almost immediately. R. Parsram was bowled on the 2^nd ball, by pacer Mel Matai, for a duck. Wickets would fall regularly, and Ocean XI soon found themselves all out for 82 runs, in 18 overs. Only G. Rajpaul, with 22 runs, and L. Mohan, 11, reached double figures. Mel Matai had figures of 3 for 10 from his five overs, whilst Nizam Latiff chipped in with 2 for 20.
